Mary Ann (Polly) NIX: A Short History This will be a SHORT History, because I have more questions than I have answers. This Mary Ann, (There are almost as many Mary Ann's as John's and Williams in the NIX family tree), was the daughter of Daniel NIX and Elizabeth Ann Holden. She was born 19 February 1848, prior to the move from Pickens District South Carolina to Blount County, North Alabama. In Alabama she met and married James Marion HOPPER, the son of Lawson HOPPER and Malinda FIELDS. They had a number of children but how many is now up for grabs. I have 12 children attributed to them but after reviewing my sources I realize that my research is not adequate. James Marion has a sister names Dicey Ellen HOPPER that married Thomas B. NIX, the oldest son of Daniel's brother Tyre. (William Tyree, the son of Harrison must have been named after him). I have even more questions about Dicey and Thomas B. than I do about Mary Ann and James Marion. Also this is not the Mary Ann that I was originally looking for. That Mary Ann was the Aunt of this one, maybe even named for her, and was the only daughter of Jennings and Lucinda (Letty) ALEXANDER. Jennings is the one buried at Ellison Cross Roads. I have now found her, she married John D. NIX in Pickens District, South Carolina and moved with him to Mississippi before the rest of the Jennings family started for Alabama. But that is a very long story, and I will save it for latter. It was confused because her father-in-law was also named John D. NIX, and her sister-in-law was named (yes you guessed it; Mary Ann NIX). Also they named one of their sons John D. NIX, and he moved from Mississippi to Altoona as a young man. He is buried at Altoona/Walnut Grove Cemetery.

I am not sure who this is, but it seems to be a child of James Marion Hopper and Mary Ann NIX. THE AGE MATCHES that of Nannie S. Hopper. I should be able to find them in the 1920 census in Texas

==

This is the wife of Elliott Hopper, They married in Texas, his father died, 1904, the family was still in Texas for the 1910 census, but apparently returned in mass, soon after that to Warrior, Etowah County, Alabama. Elliott died 1922, this is his widow in 1930 . All four of these cildren list born in Alabama, so they must have returned to Alabama prior to 1903.

Is it possible that DB is not Darius but an earlier child that died as an infant??
