MARY MCMURRAY was born on 22 Jan 1799 at Kirkmaiden, Wigtonshire, Scotland. Her birth record in the parish lists her birth as 1799. The 1841 and 1861 censuses agree on 1801. Her death certificate lists her age as 63 in 1869, which gives an 1806 birthdate. There are multiple confusing records for Elizabeth and her sister Mary. Mary is christened in June 1797, and Jan 1799. 1799 is the most likely date for Mary given her later census records. Elizabeth is christened December 1798, four weeks before Mary and then has a birth date registered 4 years later in May 1802. Christenings aren't always co-registered with births. Sometimes an infant dies and the name reused for a later child. However, there is insufficient data to resolve these conflicts.S2

Her father was a farmer. She was the next to youngest child in a family of five, all girls except for her oldest brother James.

She married JAMES MILROY, son of ALEXANDER MILROY and MARGARET HENDERSON, on 28 Oct 1828 at Kirkmaiden by Drunmore, Wigtonshire, Scotland. She married late.S6 She was 29, six years older than James. The family moved north from Wigtownshire to Glasgow sometime around 1833. Daughter Margaret was born in Wigtownshire in 1832, daugther Mary in Glasgow in 1834.

She died of typhus on 24 Aug 1869 at 19 Oswald Street, Parish Clyde, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland, at age 70.
