Mary McAsey was born on 8th June 1887 in the townland of Coolnafearagh in the parish of Monasterevin, County Kildare. She was the daughter of Eliza McAsey, formerly Shea, and her husband Michael McAsey, a carpenter. Mary appears in the 1901 census living with her widowed mother Eliza at Coolnafearagh in the parish of Monasterevin. The family was still there in 1911, by which time Mary was working as a dressmaker.

In 1927, aged 39, Mary married Joseph Reid, who had also grown up at Coolnafearagh. They do not appear to have had any children. Mary died on 3rd May 1952, aged 64, and was buried at Passlands Cemetery in Monasterevin. Joseph survived her by just over a year, and remarried shortly before his death.
