Mary Ann Hutchinson was baptised on 1st November 1829 at Richmond in Yorkshire, daughter of a labourer and coachsmith named William Hutchinson and his wife Jane. Some time between 1835 and 1840 the family left Richmond and moved a few miles north to the city of Durham, which is where William was originally from. Mary appears in the 1841 census living with her parents and siblings in the Crossgate area of Durham, to the west of the city. She was working as a wool corder.

Mary has yet to be researched after 1841.
