No baptism has definitively been found for Mary Ann Hornet. However, there are clues to her parentage. Her marriage records that she was daughter of Joseph Hornet, whilst she has a niece Sophia Wright living with her in the 1881 census. Sophia was daughter of Maria Hornet, who was daughter of Joseph Hornet and Mary Swallow.

An alternative theory might be that Mary Ann was the daughter of Maria Hornet who was baptised in 1819 at Kimpton - which would make Sophia Wright her great-niece. This theory is supported by the fact that Mary Ann in the 1861 census was living next door to her possible mother, Maria Fensom (formerly Hornet).
