Mary Harris was baptised on 3rd September 1780 St Ive in eastern Cornwall, daughter of Sarah Harry, formerly Grubb, and her husband Robert Harry, a labourer. She was the second of eight children. Some time between 1797 and 1800 Mary's parents and siblings left St Ive and moved ten miles south to the town of Saltash. Mary appears to have stayed behind in the St Ive area, marrying at nearby Quethiock on 5th February 1801, aged 20, to Daniel Sansom.

Mary and Daniel appear to have had at least two daughters born at Quethiock.

By 1841 Mary and her daughters were living in the nearby town of Liskeard. Daniel does not appear in the 1841 census, and certainly by 1851 Mary was described as a widow. Mary was clearly in receipt of some sort of pension, being described as a fund holder in 1851 and 1861 as an annuitant. She was living with her daughter Sarah, who does not appear to have married.

Some time between 1861 and 1871 Mary and Sarah left Liskeard and moved to Torpoint in the parish of Antony. Mary died there on 6 Oct 1873, aged 93.
