Clue to Mary Craig's ancestry from Genforum.com post: Re: John Craig the Weaver and Mary Cox Posted by: Krealyn Brecht (ID *****7915) Date: July 20, 2002 at 16:37:40 In Reply to: Re: John Craig the Weaver and Mary Cox by Susan B. Bromm of 5903
The reason I have interest is that John and Mary CRAIG's daughter, Cynthia married James Stotts, spelled STAATS in his will. My ancestor, James CRAIG (Not the one who inherited Hans Meadow) was in Washington County, VA in 1788.He moved to Green Co, KY and started his family. His children moved in 1819 to Morgan County, Indiana along with Robert and James Stotts. In John CRAIG's will he mentions a piece of land in KY on Simpson's Creek. The only Simpson Creek I find is in Green County, KY. and another faily that traveled to Indiana with the Craigs were named Simpson. My ancestor, John CRAIG, the son of James CRAIG was good friends with Joseph COLVILLE , the son of Andrew COLVILLE and Mary CRAIG the daughter of a William CRAIG of Cumberland Co, PA. Andrew COLVILLE fought at King's mountain along with many other Scots Irish, including some CRAIGs. John CRAIG (of Hans Meadow) sued Joseph COLVILLE for not finding him land in KY as promised. James CRAIG (mine)had sons John, Hiram T., William H., Joseph. See why I think there may be a link. Also, with the discussion of the name Hill, James CRAIG m. Rebecca Hill in 1793 in Clark Co, KY. She was the daughter of Thomas Hill os Washington Co, VA who left his will in Rockbridge County, VA. Thanks for your time Krealyn Brecht References
