Facts and Events
Name Mary Frances Cameron
Gender Female
Birth? 3 Jul 1855 Orleans (former county), Louisiana, United States
Marriage to Maxwell L. Crowe

Mary Frances Cameron was born the 3rd of July, 1855, in New Orleans, LA. She was the daughter of Daniel and Frances Cameron.

She married Maxwell L. Crowe. (He is also listed as L. Maxwell, but more often Maxwell L. Aunt Frances addresses him as Uncle Max.)

Mary Frances owned a dressmaking business with her mother. The San Francisco Archives provided the following information: 1888 - Cameron & Crowe (Mrs. D. Cameron & Mrs. L.M. Crowe), Dressmaking & Millinery, 629 Valencia St.

Mary Frances and Maxwell Crowe had a daughter. Her name was Ethel and she was born July 25, 1881. Her birth record is found in the July 29th edition of the San Francisco Call. In Maxwell's obituary, she is listed as Mrs. A. F. Thomas.

Maxwell L. Crowe was mentioned in the San Francisco Call, Volume LXXVIII, No. 101, on Monday morning, September 9, 1895. This is a copy of the article. Following the article are two photographs. One is of Mary Frances, Maxwell and their daughter, and the other is of Maxwell, and is most likely the photograph copied for the picture in the article.

In the California State Register I found a Mary Frances Crowe's death listed as #4740, February 5, 1910. In the San Francisco Call for Sunday, February 6, 1910, page 27 is found Mary Crowe's obituary. This is a copy of the obituary. "CROWE In this city, February 4, 1910. Mary Crowe, a native of County Clare, Ireland, aged 65 years. (Chicago papers please copy.) Friends and acquaintances are respectfully invited to attend the funeral tomorrow (Monday), February 7, at 8:30 a. m., from the parlors of D.I. Kenny & Co., 1719 Eddy street near Scott, thence to St. Dominic's church, where a requiem high mass will be celebrated for the repose of her soul, commencing at 9 a. m. Interment Holy Cross cemetery."

At this time I feel this Mary Crowe may have been a relative to Maxwell, as the age listed in the article makes her 20 years older than Mary Frances Cameron Crowe. It also states her place of birth as Ireland. Further investigation is necessary.

The Monday, December 30, 1912 issue, page 12 of the San Francisco Call contained Maxwell L. Crowe's obituary. "CROWE - Passed away, at his late residence, Maxwell L. Crowe, beloved husband of Mary Cameron Crowe and father of Mrs. A. F. Thomas, a native of Lanarkshire, Scotland. A member of Clan Fraser No. 78, O.S.C. and Yerba Buena Lodge No. 1788, Knights of Honor. Friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral services tomorrow (Tuesday), December 31, at 10:30 o'clock a. m., at his late residence, 142 Hancock street. Interment Mount Oliver cemetery, by funeral car from Twenty-eighth and Valencia streets."
