Mary Balhatchet's origins have yet to be established. Her first sighting is on 1st April 1771 when she married Humphrey Foot at Bere Ferrers in Devon. They went on to have eight children baptised at Bere Ferrers.

Mary appears to have died in 1809. Humphrey survived her by about thirteen years.
