  22. "Martin M. Ritter was born February 29, 1828, in Wayne County, Ohio, anddied in his home in Newton, Kansas, January 15, 1917. He was married toMrs. Lucinda Cooper, October 20, 1853 in Worcester, Ohio.[Note: there isno such city, I suspect they meant "Wooster"] They moved to Indiana in1857 and resided they are for 12 years. He built several of theTownship school buildings in Steuben County. From here they went toIowa in the fall of 1868, and after nine years residence in that state,came to Newton, where Mr. Ritter has been a resident for the past 39years and was prominently known as a contractor. He leaves his wife,aged 87 years, D. P. Ritter, of Russellville, AR, Mrs. R. J. Pooley, ofColorado Springs; Bert Ritter and Mrs. C. H. Jones, of Newton; onebrother, Emmanuelle, of Salem Township, this County. Mr. Ritter, untilthe past year or two, has been active for one of his age, and able toenjoy life and with his wife lived alone. The funeral was held at theMethodist tabernacle, Tuesday afternoon, January 16, conducted by Rev.R. L. George, assisted by Rev. Sam Bristow. He was an uncle of Hiramand Jacob Ritter, of this city whom he visited seven years ago."
