1913: Is he the nineteen-year-old Martin Curley of Leahive, Creggs, who arrived in New York on 10 May 1913, going to join his sister, D. Curley, who was living at 1209 (or 1249) Park Ave, NYC? His was the only Curley family in Leaha in 1911, and Delia/Bridget was not living with them.

1917, January 4: Declaration of Intention. b. 6 June 1895; residing at 1265 Park Ave.; arrived on the Baltic on 10 May 1913 He may be the Martin Curley, b. Galway 6 June 1895, who was living at 50-46 45th St., Woodside, Queens, with his wife Brigid, in 1945, when he registered for the draft.

He may also be the Martin Curley, b. 6 June 1895, who arrived in the US on 10 May 1913, and was naturalized in Alabama in 1918 when he was a soldier stationed there.

Is he the Martin Curley, a citizen who had been in the US for 13 years, who, with his wife Bridget and son Thomas, lived in Laurel Hill, Queens, NY in 1925? If so, he had probably gone back to Ireland to marry, since his son was born in Ireland. [But the 1930 census says his son was born in NY.] Living with them were his 27-year-old sister-in-law Margaret Shannon, who had been in the US for five years, and his 20-year-old cousin Mary Besty, who had been in the US for two years.

In 1930, Martin J. Curley and wife Bridget, with son Thomas W. (b. NY) and 1 8/12-year-old daughter Margaret W., were living with his father-in-law, 54-year-old widowed Thomas Shannon, naturalized citizen who arrived in 1913, and 37-year-old Michael Shannon, presumably his brother-in-law, and Michael's wife, 30-year-old Kathleen.

On the other hand, Martin Curley, b. County Galway 6 June 1895, single, living in East Hampton, NY at the time he registered for the draft on 5 June 1917, claims to be the sole supporter of his mother.

He is almost certainly the Martin Curley, resident of Holbrook, Suffolk, New York, USA, b. 20 Jul 1895, who died Jan 1983.

1931: 36-year-old Martin Curley arrived in New York on the ship Scythia from Galway on 7 July 1931. His passport number is given as 391057. He was naturalized at Camp McClennan, Alabama on 5 November 1918. His address was 5046 45th St. Woodside, LI, NY.

  8. The civil birthdate is often suspect because there was a fine for late reporting, and so sometimes the birthdate was adjusted to conform to the required time period.
