Martha Joanna Winthrop came to New England with her mother in 1631, grew up in Watertown, MA, and Greenwich, CT and married, not later than 1647, Thomas Lyon. Lack of money and her ill health combined to give them a rather hard life. She died at about age 24. She had two children, one of which supposedly died in infancy, and the second, her daughter, Mary Lyon. (The Winthrop Family in America by Lawrence Shaw Mayo, 1948, p. 61.
