Martha Mattie (Rupert) Cummins Mrs. Martha Cummins, of Harlan, the wife of Frank Cummins, a retired farmer, died Friday morning at her home, after an illness of six weeks. Mrs. Cummins was attacked by dysentery and at the start of her case was not considered serious, but later she grew worse so rapidly that it had been known for some time that she could not recover. Mrs. Cummins was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Elias Rupert, pioneer residents of Allen county. She was born in Ohio fifty seven years ago and came to this county when but a mere child, more than a half century ago. Her marriage to Mr. Cummins took place thirty five years ago. For many years the couple resided on a farm in Springfield township, but recently Mr. Cummins retired active work and they made their home in Harlan. Mrs. Cummins was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church at Harlan and she was a woman of high Christian character, who enjoyed the esteem of a large circle of friends. Aside from her husband Mrs. Cummins leaves these children; Mrs. Victoria Dean of Springfield township, Mrs. Hattie Driver of Maumee township, Elsie Wann of Grabill, and Harry Cummins of Springfield township. There are also the following brothers and sisters, Manassa Rupert of Spencerville, Frank Rupert of Fort Wayne, Eli Rupert of Harlan, Mrs. Lorinda Heddinger of Harlen, Mrs, Saloma Wann of Kansas, Mrs. Mary Grouch of Noblesville, Ind., and Mrs. Rosetta Traxler of FortWayne. The funeral services will likely be held Sunday.
