    George Lyle who died June 9, 1872 age 70 years, 5months, 5 days, also Martha, wife of the above [rest of stone broken].

  7. ↑ Martha's date of birth was originally calculated from the death date as found both on the death registration and on her gravestone (first read before it was broken). The baptism (found 20 years later) confirms these later entries.
  8. ↑ "Scag." in the baptism entry means that the family was resident in Scagglethorpe, just to the north of Settrington. This is probably where Martha was most likely born. (Thanks to Werebear)
