Born in 1840 Martha married Alfred Ellis at the age of 24 in 1864. Her first child was born in 1865 a year after her marriage. In 1871 on her daughters Martha Sarah's birth certificate Martha listed her self as being formerly being Martha Lee. The term formly usually reffers to a maiden name however in this case maybe it was a previous married name?

We think that Martha's death was registered as Martha LEE in 2 Sep 1880

Only after her death were her children chistened in 2 job lots perhaps to bring everyone spiriutally up-todate.

(Research):Which child was born to cause the death of Martha? There was a child Edith Harriet Ellis who died in 1880 wh o I originally thought may have been Martha's child, perhaps the birth that resulted in the death of Martha. However when the certificate was applied for [(Death Certificate Martha Lee, 2 September 1880, Reference Deaths Sep 1880, District Camberwell, Vol.1d, p.534 General Register Office, England) Jan has the original copy] it was found that it was not the child of our Martha but the mother was a Jane Phoebe Ellis.
