According to Kenneth Mills, Bill attended Knox College in Galesburg on a Basketball Scholarship, but did not graduate. Bill knew automobiles from front to back and was a top notch mechanic until he started drinking the first time, which is why his first wife Georgia divorced him. After his divorce from Georgia he joined the Army. When Bill married Olive, Kenneth was there and they were very close for many years, then Bill started drinking a second time and that proved to be a big problem for the whole family.
