Obituary.
Obituary for Marion Spencer from the Athens Messenger dated July 30, 1903. Jacksonville - July 27 - Marion Spencer, age 44, was instantly killed in Modoc mine this morning at about 8 o'clock by a fall of slate. He was engaged in removing pillars, a dangerous operation at best, when several tons of slate let loose and crashed him flat to the earth. Other men working with him escaped. He was soon dug out but there was every evidence that death came instantly. Mr. Spencer was a highly respected citizen here and the news of the sad accident was cause of much sorrow throughout the village. A wife and three children who survive him have the heart felt sympathy of everyone who know them. Dated July 30, 1903.
