Marie DUGAS, born around 1674, daughter of Claude & Francoise BOURGEOIS, married around 1695 to Philippe MELANSON, son of Pierre & Marguerite MIUS d'ENTREMONT; eleven children. She died/was buried (Grand Pré Register) on 20/21 Sep [sic] 1733. Present: Alexandre BOURG; Joseph THE'RIOT; Rene' BABIN; Pierre DOUCET; Bernard DAIGRE, who have signed. !NAME: "Queries," in TERREBONNE LIFE LINES; vol. 18, no. 1 (spring 1999); p. 77; own copy. Argues that Catherine DUGAS should be only Marie DUGAS, married to Philippe MELANCON. Name in 1686 census and children birth records in Grand Pré all list only Marie DUGAS. Only reference to a Catherine DUGAS is in the Belle Isle [sic] papers, not primary evidence. [However, another Marie is listed in this family, born in 1691.] !CENSUS: 1686, Acadian Census, contains 23 pp. for Port Royal, others for Cap de Sable, Baye des Mines, and Beaubassin; 1686; microfilm roll from Canada, National Archives (MG1, vol. 466, pt. 1); p. ; Santa Cruz Genealogical Society has roll of Acadian census from 1671-1752. Marie, age 12, oldest child in family of Claude DUGAS & wife Francoise BOURGEOIS. Marie DUGAS, wife of Philippe MELANCON, died and was buried 29 [sic] Sep 1733 in the cemetery of the parish of St. Charles.
