!Maria and her husband Marcos are first cousins. !CENSUS: 1910 U.S. Federal Census of Coamo, Puerto Rico shows that Jose Segundo Bernier Giraud, her son, had a mother born in France. !Marcos and his wife were both from France. The biography of Felix Matos Bernier states that they relocated, together with their sons, from France to Coamo, Puerto Rico, where they owned a magnificent ancestral manor. The biography also spells the name Girau, and not Giraud. Parents are shown as Antonio Giraud and Serafina Bernier. Maria was 42 years old when she died. Her spouse is shown to be Marcos Bernier. !CONFLICT: Age is given as 42 in burial records, at death, in 1873, putting her birth at about 1831. This is probably 15 to 20 years off. Her birth date should be around 1815/1820. Marriage and other records put the birth dates of two of her children at 1835 and 1837. !BAPTISM_CONFIRMATION: The baptism and confirmation ordinances were performed for Maria Del Carmen by proxies in the Washington D.C.
