Maria Farrell was born on 9th February 1880 in Dublin, daughter of Richard Farrell and his wife Margaret Reid. She was baptised a week later at St Mary's Pro-Cathedral, with the family's address recorded as 26 Capel Street.

Maria's parents probably died some time between 1887 and 1901, as the 1901 census find Maria and several of her siblings living with their eldest sister, Julia. Maria has yet to be traced after the 1901 census.
