Facts and Events
Margaret Kelly was born around 1841 in New York to Irish parents. Her first confirmed sighting is in 1870, by which time she was married to a mason called Michael Reid, who was also from Ireland. They appear to have married around the late 1850s, and had at least six children together.
Margaret appears to have died on 12th November 1872 in New York. She was said to be 30 years old. Michael outlived her by 46 years and married again.

Margaret is assumed to have died between 1872, when her last child was born, and about 1877, when Michael's daughter Agnes was born, as Agnes's death record names her mother as Michael's second wife, Mary. Michael's daughter Ella, born around 1873/4 (judging by the earliest censuses in which she appears), has yet to be found in any documents which name her mother. Searching the New York City Municipal Deaths and New York Deaths and Burials collections at FamilySearch finds four Margaret Reid / Reed deaths in this period with an age within 5 years of that Margaret quoted in the 1870 census:

Possibility A is the only one which correctly matches all the details Margaret gave in the 1870 census - notably the other three possibilities were all born in Ireland, whereas the Margaret we are looking for said she was born in New York. Assuming the coverage of these collections is comprehensive, it seems reasonable to conclude that Margaret died on 12th November 1872. We therefore also conclude that Ella must have been the daughter of Michael's second wife, Mary.
