    Rev. John Davis married Margaret (Powers) Kelso 21 Aug 1814, in Harrison County, W. Virginia. John had first married Marvel Maxson and Margaret had first married William Kelso. For many years John Davis was minister of the Salem Seventh Day Baptist Church which had been established at Salem, (West) Virginia in 1792. Margaret was the daughter of John and Prudence Powers, the family came to Harrison County (West) Virginia about 1771 and John established Powers Fort on Simpsons Creek at Bridgeport..

    Robert Brown's widow, Mary, who was the daughter of William and Margaret Kelso, was married by Rev. John Davis to Benjamin P. Shannon 4 Oct 1835 in Lewis County, (West) Virginia. Benjamin and Mary Shannon cared for Rev. John and Margaret Davis in their later years. The 1840 Census of Revolutionary War Pensioners shows John Davis living in the Shannon household, and the 1850 U.S. Census shows Margaret Davis living in the Shannon household. Benjamin Shannon registered Margaret's death, listing her parents as John and Prudence Powers and himself as her son-in-law
