From the application of Clement Hill Myers: Mahala and her brother David Jackson were born in South Carolina. Her first husband died early and left a son William Myers and a daughter. Mahala and her two children were taken by the Jacksons to Jackson County, Georgia, where she married second October 6, 1808, David Rutherford. About 1837 the Rutherfords left Gwinnett county and settled in Walker county, Georgia - first in Cane Creek District, and then about two miles southwest of Rossville where they died on the same day and are buried in the same grave in the Hawkins Cemetery.
