Alternate Spellings
Louis A. Jauch (1930 death notice of his wife)
Early Life
While Ludwig's Buffalo death record (St. Peters Evangelical Church) indicates that his birth date was 19 July 1839, he is likely the Ludwig Jauch b. 4 July 1839 in Schwenningen, Schwarzwald, Wurttemberg to parents Andreas Jauch and Rosina Jaeckle. Schwenningen is also near Hausen Ob Verena where his wife, Pauline Glunz, was raised. And the bulk of JAUCHs who emigrated to the U.S. appear to come from Schwenningen. See FHL Films #1658743-1658749.
His parents' family registry page in the Schwenningen films indicates that after the death of his mother in 1846, the father apparently took the children to America; and in fact, his father (and the right number of children) are listed on the 1847 town-subsidized emigration of almost 200 citizens. But it appears that his father lost heart along the way and did not complete the trip: there is a near-20-year gap in time between when the family registry says they left (1847) and when they start showing up in the U.S. (not until the mid 1860s).
Emigration
- The first official sign of Ludwig in Buffalo, NY is his marriage to Paulina GLUNZ on 29 September 1867 at St. Peters German Evangelical Church. It appears that she was barely off the boat from Hausen ob Verena (not far from Schwenningen) when they were married. (NOTE: Other evidence exists of JAUCHs marrying GLUNZes back in Schwenningen.)
- The 1900 & 1910 censuses indicate Ludwig emigrated in 1867.
- He has not yet been located on a boat or passenger list.

Mildred Smith Heffley remembered that Ludwig was Catholic, but no evidence supports this; his birth, marriage and death are recorded in protestant churches.

Kevin visited Pine Ridge Cemetery and sent this information: "I gave them a couple names of Jillaines list and they gave me the Gravesite for Louis Jauch in Ridge Lawn Cemetery, Section B, grave 157 about 8 in from the road and in line with grave stone facing road with name Krause. I found the Grave stone Marked Jauch (abt 3 ft long by 2 ft high and redish granite) it said Father Louis 1839-1912 then Mother Pauline 1847-1930 and then Son Albert1880-1961. There was the three chain link insignia with letters F L T in the links which is the logo for The International order of Odd Fellows. Next to the right hand side of the base of the stone was a flat stone marker covered with sod. I cut the sod away and it revealed Edward Frederick Jauch, 1879-1915. I dug around the site looking for other flat ,markers that were covered and found another one on the left side but in front of the big granite Jauch marker and this was like Edwards but had Louis's info on it. I suspect that maybe the newer larger grave stone was put in when Albert died. I walked around looking for other Jauch's and other Surnames Jillaine had provided. There are a lot of flat stone markers covered by grass that can't be read without cutting away the grass etc."
