Lucy Amelia HOFFMAN was born in Sac County, Iowa. She married first Frank Chilman 2 April 1896 at Fonda, Iowa. She had two children and according to family stories left Frank and the children in 1900 and was never heard from again. In searching for Lucy, we find that she had another child, a daughter named Mrytle. We do not know exactly who the father of this child was and if there was a marriage. We do find that Lucy married about 1920 to Arthur BRIGGS and was married to him at her death. She is buried in Des Moines Iowa.

Believe this is Lucy based upon story of Elis Bane being Myrtle's father: this man being named George E. (Myrtle's middle name was Georgia) : also Lucy's mother was born in West Indies so do not believe this could be anyone else - believe she used different name or census taker did not understand her. Looking at a copy of the original entry the name could have been written as Amelia which is Lucy's Middle name. It could also have been A. Lucile so feel confident that is our Lucy. 1880 Census Marion County, Swan Twsp, Iowa shows Bane, Robert T. age 44 with wife Mary age 33, daughter Etta age 19, daughter Ida age 9 and son George E. age 1.
