Facts and Events
Check the Norwich area for the Bill family. The information for generations before Lucretia are derived from LDS information, beginning with Thomas Bill, AFN G776-V0. It has not been verified. There is also a serious problem with dates, etc. in this info. Thomas Bill b 9 26 1705 Groton, New London, Conn son of Phillip and Mary Bill of Ipswich, Essex, Mass and Groton, New London, Conn m Abigail Ch: born between 1720 and 1740 - all in Groton or Montville, Conn. Abigail Lucretia (1729) Jabez Bashua Charles Philena Lucretia (1727) Susanna Pricilla Jabez Abigail Charles Bethshua William Susanna Priscilla Anna Susannah Another record (Batch #7624608, Sheet 5) gives Lucretia's birth as 9 Mar, 1729, Groton, New London, Conn. Baker makes reference to gravestones of Lucretia and some other Holmeses in "the old Salem burying-ground". From the Thompson Family Magazine, Vol 2 No 3 July 1963 p. 49 William (4) Thompson, youngest child of Isaac and Anna (Stanton) Thompson of Montville Conn. was born July 2, 1742 and was bapt. Aug. 1742 at the 1st Church Stonington Conn.. He married Lucretia (perhaps daughter of Samuel and Lucretia (Bill) Holmes). No dates are known for Lucretia Thompson. William died in 1834. In the 1790 census of New London Co. Conn., William was listed with 3 males of 16 and over (including himself), none under 16 and one female, which would indicate that Lucretia had died. [This information is included in this database.] From Margaret Harris Stover's article on Samuel Holmes of Montville, Connecticut in the Mayflower Quarterly (references omitted) A Holmes biographical sketch gives her name as Lucretia Bill. The will of Thomas Bill, dated 6 Nov 1753, names daughter Lucretia (no surname) among other heirs. References
