Lewis Alton Haskell was first married to Rose Holbrook. They had three ch ildren: Pearl, Carl and Louie. Rose died when the children were youn g. Edith Briet, may have been Rose's nurse, married Lewis and raised t he children. Louie adoredher. Lewis apparently was not a very nice man and hit the children with s ome regularity. Edith told Lewis that if he hit the children again, she w ould leave and take the children with her. Lewis pretty much left the chi ldren alone afterthat. Edith dies at some point and Lewis later marries Lillian Everso n. Lewis Alton Haskell went to live with his son, Louie Haske ll at some point in the late 1930's (abt. 1936-1938) for a couple of year s. He was a grumpy man living ina house with small children. Lewis had his own bedroom. About 1941, Lew is had a "spell" and fell down the stairs. As part of the fall, he put h is head through the wall at the bottom of the stairs. He was taken to Acu shnet Hospital. LouieHaskell, Jr. doesn't remember him coming home after that. Lewis Haske ll worked with horses. Louie Haskell, Jr. described him as "so mean th at even the hourses would bite him if they could."
