The 12th Vermont provided picket and guard duties during their 9 month enlistment. On Jun 25, 1863, they were ordered to march to Gettysburg. However, they were detached at Westminster to guard the railroad and then escorted prisoners taken at Gettysburg to Balitmore, MD. From there, they returned to Brattleboro, VT where they were mustered out. The Regimemt lost 2 officers and 207 enlisted men to diseases common in the army at this time.
