There is an 1823 record showing that "Lawson Dugger" legally changed his name to "Lawson Goodwin" (Acts of Tennessee 1796-1830, D part 3, 1823-28-103.1, shared by Dawn Oftel). I have not seen the original record so I'm not sure what else it may reveal.
