Services Held For Lawrence Moses

Lawrence J. Moses, 92, of Prairie du Chien, Wis., and formerly of Monona, Iowa, died Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

He was born January 3, 1909, in Monona, Iowa, son of John and Anna (Lestina) Moses.

He married Marie Muchow on October 7, 1930, at St. Patrick's Church in Monona. He farmed in the Monona and Prairie du Chien area for many years. He later owned and operated a tavern in Galt, Iowa. He worked as a bartender for various taverns in the Prairie du Chien area and was the oldest bartender in the state of Wisconsin.

He is survived by his wife Marie of Prairie du Chien; 2 sons, Don (Barbara) of Hanover Park, Ill., and Darwin (Marion) of Garnavillo; 1 sister, Irene Holly of McGregor, Iowa; 5 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 daughter, Susan Moses; 1 brother, Leo and a sister, Agnes Johanningmeier.

Funeral services were held on Friday, May 11, 2001, at 11 am at St. John's Catholic Church in Prairie du Chien, with burial in the St. Patrick's Cemetery in Monona.

Garrity Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien was in charge of arrangements.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 tonight at Garrity Funeral Home, Prairie du Chien, where a Scripture wake service begins at 8 p.m. Survivors include his wife, Marie; two sons, Don of Hanover Park, Ill., and Darwin of Garnavillo; and a sister, Irene Holly of McGregor.
