Served as a CMSGT in the US Air Force in World War II.

From his obituary in the Knoxville News-Sentinel, 12 Oct 1998:

CHATT, LAWRENCE - age 71 of Lenoir City, passed away Saturday, October 10, 1998 at his home. Larry was a member of the Hillsboro, Indiana Methodist Church. He was retired from the United States Air Force & Navy after 28 years of service including WWII, Korea, & Vietnam. He was also a retired supervisor with Burlington Northern Railroad. He was a member of the Anaid Shriners in East St. Louis, the Masonic Lodge in Centralia, Ill., a 32nd Degree Mason and the local VFW Huff Post. He was recently active with Remote Area Medical. Preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Mabel Ramsey Chatt; brothers, Ronald and John; sisters, Mary and Sara. Survived by his wife, Maida Bean Chatt; Daughters and sons-in law, Sandra and Joe Simpson of Lenoir City, Angela and Britt Manning of Farragut; grandchildren, Andrew and Natalie Simpson and Brittany Manning; brothers, James Chatt of Oakwood, Ill., and Roderick Chatt of Granada Hills, Calif.; sisters, Thelma Higgens of Sullivan, Ind., and Lyle Chatt of Hillsboro, Ind.; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Monday followed by a Masonic service at 8 p.m., Monday in the Click Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday in the Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ernie Varner officiating. Interment will follow in the Loudon Co. Memorial Gardens with full military honors conferred by US Air Force Honor Guard form Warner Robbins, Ga. Click Funeral Home Lenoir City in-charge.
