[news article from the 9/76 Jackson County paper]:

Sixty-six years ago a young Jackson County woman put a note in a bottle, tossed it in the Tug Fork at Mill Creek and waited for a response to her request of correspondence.

That response never came to Laura Pringle, who died before anyone ever found the bottle.

The bottle, which apparently was sent afloat in Tug Fork on June 5, 1910 was found September 12, 1976 by Daniel Mark Smith, of Route 6, Ripley.

Smith found the bottle along the bank of Tug Fork just below the Wendell Castro farmhouse.

The cork stopper type bottle with the words "Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery" on it contained a note indicating that it was written by L. Pringle of Ripley on June 5, 1910.

The note asked that the person finding the bottle correspond with her.

Information from county records indicate that Laura Pringle would have been 26 years old when she sent the note via the bottle. The records also showed that later that year she married G. R. CLine.
