She served in Mexico (in and around Cuauhtemoc, Chihuahua) for 39 years as a nurse and midwife, and also taught many nurses. She was highly respected and well-loved by both the Mennonite community and the Spanish Mexicans whom she served and with whom she worked.

She was known as Aunt Katherine to her large family in Canada, and as Tina in Mexico.
