Eddy. Julian Burr Eddy Sr.

EDDY. Julian Burr Eddy Sr., 85, of Albany Avenue, West Hartford, husband of Edith (Messenger) Eddy, died Monday (April 11, 1994) at his home. He was born Dec. 24, 1908, in Avon, son of the late Sherman W. and Grace (Blakeman) Eddy and had lived in West Hartford for the past 57 years. He was a graduate of Simsbury High School, 1926, and the University of Connecticut, Class of 1930. Mr. Eddy reserved a great love for education and was an agent of his class until his death. He was also a member of the University of Connecticut Alumni Association. Mr. Eddy owned and operated Towpath Gardens, Inc., West Hartford, for over 60 years prior to his retirement in 1988. He was past president of the Connecticut Horticultural Society and the Men's Garden Club of West Hartford, and a past officer of the Friend's of Elizabeth Park. He also was a long time member of the Connecticut Nurserymen's Association and a variety of trade associations. He was well known for his prize winning gardens at the International Flower Show in New York City and flower shows in Hartford and Boston, Mass. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Julian B. Eddy Jr. and his wife, Claire, of Farmington; two daughters and sons-in-law, Grace E. and Roger L. Castle of Tariffville, and Phyllis and Edward S. Beach of Madison; a brother, Donald Eddy of Haverford, Pa.; two sisters, Barbara Machabee of East Hartford, and Martha Zondiros of New Jersey; seven grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. Funeral service will be Wednesday, 2 p.m., at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury, with the Rev. Edward R. Mayes officiating. Burial will be in Center Cemetery, Simsbury. Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, Simsbury, one hour prior to the service, 1-2 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Friends of Elizabeth Park, P.O. Box 370361, West Hartford 06137-0361.
