Julia wrote and received several letters to family and friends during 1863 through 1867, and her husband wrote in September 1867 to tell family members that they were moving to Illinois and perhaps beyond. Late in the year of 1869(?), her brother-in-law William Reece mentioned in a letter that the Mullins were in Linn County, Missouri, along with the Dick family (Julia's sister and brother-in-law).

- ↑ Julia lacked a sense of consistency when it came to reporting her age. The most likely time of birth is around 1837, consistent with her reported age in the 1860 Census, and with her presumed age category in the 1840 Census. The ages reported in the 1850 Census are suspect, while in later Census records she probably underreported her age in order to appear less older than her husband.
