  1.   Marchand, Sidney A. An Attempt to Re-Assemble the Old Settlers in Family Groups. (Claitor's Book Store: Baton Rouge, 1965)
    family group no. 694.

Marchand cites the marriage of Don Juan Vives (son of Juan Vives & Francisca Planez), a lieutenant of militia at Valenzuela, La Fourche Parish, and Marguerite Bujol (daughter of Joseph Bujol & Anna Le Blanc), widow of Joseph Constant, in 1780. Note that the published diocesan records incorrectly transcribe Planez as Planette, but the original document clearly shows a 'z' and two vertical creases in the paper.

Marriage of Don Juan Vives & Dona Margarita Bujol.

The published diocesan records incorrectly transcribe his place of birth as "Cario, Reynade, Valencia," but the original actually reads Cario Reyna de Valencia -- Royal City of Cario, Valencia. ("Royal" refers to special protection, as with a charter in other countries.)

Marriage of Don Luis Landry & Dona Carmelita Vives.

His daughter's marriage record describes her as the "legitimate daughter of Don Juan Vives, Brevet Captain of the provincial Militia and Surgeon for His Majesty in this settlement, and of Dona Margarita Bujol, the former a native of Derie, Kingdom of Valencia in Spain, and the latter of Acadia." This is another incorrect transcription in the published diocesan records. The original says Derie Ciudad del Reyno de Valencia, or "royal city of Derie, in Valencia." Valencia was never a kingdom.
