The first road in the county [Cocke County, Tennessee] was laid out from this point to the point on the Nolachucky, where the war path crossed it, in 1784. In 1793 the Jefferson county court appointed Peter Huff, Spencer Rice, John McNabb, William Lillard, Joseph Rutherford, Alexander Rogers, Thomas Christian and Henry Patton commissioners, to lay off a road from the mouth of Pigeon up the south side of the French Broad to the War Ford.

Sale for Interest:
In pursuance of a law passed 19 Oct 1819, I will expose to sale on 7 Aug next, the following tracts of land . . .
To be sold at the court house in Newport to satisfy the interest due thereon were the following tracts in Cocke Co.:
A Tract of land granted to the heirs of Joseph Rutherford containing 456 3/4 acres situate in Cocke county and district south of French Broad and Holston.
