Letter from Rosannah Rogers, dau of Joseph Rogers regarding the Rogers family move from Luzerne Co. to Elk Co.

Uncle Uriah and Jonah Rogers, with Wilson <sic> Holly [Hawley] that married aunt Hannah, sister, with their families and my father and brother Thamer, then young men or boys, drove ox teams across the Alleghaneys from Luzerne Co. to Clearfield, now Elk Co., camping mostly in their wagons at night. Their first stopping place was at the old log house that stood on the hill at the north west of Linsey Mores house or Salley Rogers home. While the men were unloading their things (few) the women began [to] realize what it meant to them and I have been told that they all sat on the ground to weep with their little ones. If my memory serves me right my father made four trips back and forth before he settled down on the farm near where Uncle Uriah's, living there twenty-five years, then with his family moved to Illinois living in that state twenty years.
