Possible Relatives in Virginia

There is little information available on Joseph Reed's family before his migration to Augusta County. We know that he married an Elizabeth (Unknown) prior to September 1748, as shown in the Chalkley's record above. Few records exist that tie him to any of the other Reed/Reid families in the area. There was a Joseph Reed that left the following will in Anson County, North Carolina, naming a Joseph Reed as the administrator of his estate: (no relationship proven at this point, but interesting because it contans names of some Augusta County families)

Vol. XXVI, p. 17: Nov. 1750 - Will of JOSEPH REED, Being very sick..to wife one riding horse..to son WILLIAM REED, 400 A near Cutawba River.my plantation I now live on to my wife..John Brandon & John Nesbet, Exrs..Joseph Reed, Wit: John Arledge, Joseph Cate, John Raily. Proved July Ct. 1751. Letters granted 6 April 1752.

Processioning List of 1748 & 1767/68

"Processioning" was the periodic review and agreement of property lines between settler's lands. Processioning Lists are useful in determining the general area of a settlers lands and their neighbors at specific time periods:
