About Joseph Reed

Details are sketchy on this Joseph Reed. He is the supposed son of Joseph Reed, and early settler of Augusta County, Virginia that lived first in Beverley Manor and later to the south on the Borden Tract. This Joseph has been placed as a probable son of the elder Joseph Reed and his wife Elizabeth, based upon many records of Joseph Reed Sr. and the family of Nathaniel McClure, which indicate a close relationship between the families.

This Joseph Reed married Mary McClure, daughter of Nathaniel McClure, who died abt. May 1761 in Augusta County. In his will, (among others), he named a daughter Mary. The relationship of Joseph Reed as a son-in-law to Nathaniel is proven in the estate settlement of Nathaniel McClure, listing Joseph Reed as "one of the heirs" of Nathaniel, which he would have been, since he married Nathiel's daughter Mary:
