1851 - Living on Borough Common, Attleborough, with wife, five children and three servants. Farmer of 145 acres, employing 6 labourers.

1861 - Living on Borough Common, Attleborough, with wife, 5 children and niece, Maria BARKER (dressmaker aged 20, born at Deopham, Norfolk). There is also Alfred BARKER (carpenter aged 18, born at Wymondham, Norfolk) who is visiting and a female servant (dairy maid). Joseph is the local preacher and a farmer of 305 acres, employing 11 men and 5 boys.

1881 - Recorded as "unmarried" but presumed widowed. Retired farmer, living with daughter Hannah and husband Isaac LEBETT, farmer, on Borough Common, Attleborough. Possibly the son-in-law has taken over the farm.
