Joseph was 9 when the picture was taken. His father was born in Pennsylvania and his mother in Illinois, I have not traced them back further. His father was a "lic. farmer" in 1900, and working in the car shops by 1910.

In 1910, Joseph was working for the Pullman Co., and in 1920 he was a clerk for a tractor company in Cleveland, Ohio. I cannot find him in 1930, thus I don't know if he married or not, but it appears he returned to the Chicago area at some point based on his death location.
