Joseph was a millright.

He was in Saugus (Lynn, MA) in 1636 and by 1637 in Sandwich MA on Cape Cod. He was one of 61 original settlers of Sandwich and one of16 long-term settlers. He purchased a house and lot from Jeremy Gould on Oct. 1, 1639. He served as constable in 1644, surveyerof highways in 1647, and in 1643 was listed on rolls of Lt. Blackmer's company of Militia.

He died young, at about 40, when only his son Joseph was of age. His wife remarried and raised their 4 small daughters. Joseph’s estate was not settled until 18 years after his death, when all the daughters were grown.
