    Joseph3 Davis (Joseph2, William1), b.prob. 1671; m. (1) Sarah ___. He m. (2) 8 Dec. 1715, Elizabeth Lane.

JOSEPH DAVIS was a cordwainer at Roxbury; in 1710 bought of his father a house and fifteen acres of land, partly in Roxbury and partly in Brookline, the house being in Brookline. This estate he and his wife Elizabeth sold, in 1717, to Joseph Scott. He died soon after. Jacob Chamberlain was administrator of his estate, on whose bond appears the name of Ichabod Davis. James Griggs was one of his appraisers; total of inventory, L415. His sons, Joseph and John, received his whole estate, excepting the widow's thirds, and gave a bond to distribute it equally among the heirs. It seems that most or all of these children settled at Woodstock, Conn., as we find their names, with the exception of Ebenezer, on the church records there.
