Jane MCGHIE, bapt October 11, 1661; m. Joseph CALDWLL of Ballyboggan in the parish of Clonleigh, Co. Donegal, bapt January 9, 1657, son of John Caldwell and Mary Holmes of Ballyboggan, on April 8, 1682. The Caldwell family came originally from Straiton in Ayrshire. Joseph served in the defence of Derry and died in 1730, being buried on his farm in Ballyboggan on 3 Sep 1730. Jane d. in 1740.

John CALDWELL, b. circa 1683 in Ballyboggan. At 15 years, family tradition asserts, he was sent to Edinburgh, for his education and that during his five years stay, among his father’s relatives, he became engrossed in the teachings of John Knox. His interest in religion was also influenced by his mother’s uncle, William MILLIKIN, a Presbyterian minister, with whom he spent the summer of his 18th year. John married Margaret PHILLIPS, daughter of James Phillips, on January 4, 1704. Emigrated to America in 1727 with his wife, family, except one daughter. Said to have arrived at New Castle, Delaware, on December 11, 1727. He then moved to Chestnut Level in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and then about 1742, he moved to Lunenburg County (now Charlotte), Virginia, where he died at Club Creek on October 6, 1750.
