He inherited land at Bridgewater, where he settled, and also at Middleboro, Massachusetts. He was admitted a freeman 1659.


He was one of the early settlers of Bridgewater, in 1654. His posterity are very numerous throughout the Bridgewaters.

In 1911, two thirds of those Americans bearing the lastname Alden could be traced to Joseph.

See, for example, Source:MD, 1:150 or Source:Plymouth, Massachusetts, United States. Records of the Colony of New Plymouth, in New England, vol. 10 (Deeds), p. 10, which gives the fourth lot as containing only John, Prissilla, Elizabeth and "Joh." Alden.
