    Joseph Alden was born probably at Bridgewater, about 1668 (age of death); died at Bridgewater, 22 December 1747, in his 80th year, buried in Old Graveyard and the gravestone calls him "deacon" (VR, 2:424; MD, 3:143; Alden's Epitaphs, 2:208).

    He married before 29 January 1690 (birth of first child), Hannah Dunham, daughter of Daniel Dunham (TAG, 30:145), born at Plymouth about 1670 (age at death); died at Bridgewater, 14 January 1747/48, in 78th year, buried in Old Graveyard and the gravestone calls her "native of Middleboro" (VR, 2:242; MD, 3:143; Alden's Epitaphs, 2:208).

    17. II. Deacon Joseph Alden, Bridgewater, farmer: son of Joseph (2,) was b. 1667; lived in what is now South B.; was a deacon in the church there and much esteemed.

    His will is dated, 12 Nov. 1743, having not his signature, but his mark, showing that at that time he was from infirmity unable to write.. He died 22 Dec. 1747, a. 80.
