Jonathan moved to Dartmouth, now Fairhaven, MA was one of the first proprietors; his right derived from his father to 800 acres of land was purchased by the latter with others from the Indian sachems Wasamequin and Wamsutta in 1652. It is said that he resided near the brook at Tusket Hill or Wasquatucket where he built a mill.

He was constable, surveyor, commissioner and selectman.

He participated in the Indian battle at Mt. Hope, King Philip's stronghold, under Capt Benj Church Aug 22 1676; was deputy 1689; commissioned Lieutenant by Gov Hinckley, 25 Dec 1689 - Source Hamlin Family page 248

The task of defeating King Philip was entrusted to Capt Benjamin Church of the Plymouth Colony. With a force of only eighteen whites and 22 friendly Indians, Capt Church fulfilled his mission and the war ended.

One of the brave men under Capt Church on this expedition was Jonathan Delano who married Mercy Warren, a cousin of Capt Church two years later. After the war Jonathan settled at Dartmouth, having right to 800 actes of land there which had been granted to his father. He was made a lieutenant in 1689.
