Jonathan Wells, s. of Thomas, b. 1659; he was the boy hero of the Turners Falls fight; for an account of his remarkable bravery and suffering see ante, p. 161; he came with the permanent settlement and was to his death a leading spirit in civil and military affairs; rep.; selectman 13 yrs.; the first justice of the peace, and his bold autograph is met with in many judicial papers; on the death of his brother, Lieut. Thomas, he was made capt., and he was military commander of the town Feb. 29, 1704; he lived on lot No. 16; his house was picketed, and not captured, Feb. 29, 1704; he d. Jan. 3, 1738-9. He m.
