Jonathan3 Shepard (John,2 William1), born at Rowley, Mass., 12 May 1698, died at Haverhill, Mass., 12 Sept. 1770, aged 73 (g.s.); married first, at Rowley, 5 Feb. 1722/3, Mehitable Tenney, … daughter of Thomas and Margaret (Hiddon) Tenney; married second, at Haverhill, 30 May 1738, Ruth Johnson, … daughter of Thomas and Rachel (Ordway) Johnson; married third, at Andover, Mass., 11 Sept. 1744, Joanna Barker, … daughter of Benjamin and Hannah (Marston) Barker. He was a blacksmith and is so called in various purchases of land made by him in Haverhill from 1721 to 1752. He was baptized as an adult at Rowley, 29 Oct. 1721, and was then admitted to membership in the church there. He settled in Haverhill shortly after his first marriage and all his children were baptized at the First Church there. His [third] wife Joanna was admitted to the Haverhill church 1 June 1746, by dismission from the First Church in Andover. … The will of Jonathan Shepard of Haverhill, blacksmith, dated 25 Mar. 1754, proved 24 Sept. 1770, named his wife Joanna; daughter Hannah wife of Stephen Dow; and three sons, Jonathan (executor), James, and Thomas. A division of the Haverhill land was made, 8 May 1772, to James Shepard, a son; to Jesse and Jonathan, children of Thomas Shepard, a son; and to Jonathan Shepard. [Ibid.] On 25 Mar. 1754 (the date of his will), Jonathan Shepard of Haverhill, blacksmith, had conveyed land to his son Jonathan Shepard, Jr., of Haverhill, blacksmith. Before the estate was fully settled, on 2 Mar. 1771, James and Thomas Shepard, both blacksmiths of Haverhill, conveyed 10 acres to their brother, Jonathan Shepard of Haverhill, Gentleman."
